Duo, the little green owl from Duolingo, is apparently gone, and singer Dua Lipa is, well, not exactly happy about it.

Duolingo made the news official on Tuesday with a cheeky post on X, saying, “Authorities are looking into his cause of death and we’re cooperating. Honestly, he probably passed away waiting for you to finish your lesson, but who’s really keeping track?”

For those who don’t know, Duolingo is a language-learning app that offers over 100 courses in more than 40 languages, all through short, bite-sized lessons. It really blew up during the pandemic, and it’s known for its (often funny) guilt trips when you fall behind.

“We know he had a lot of haters, but please, don’t use this as a chance to talk about why you couldn’t stand him,” the statement went on.

In a nod to Lipa, Duolingo’s message finished with, “We kindly ask that you give Dua Lipa some privacy during this tough time.”

Lipa jumped in with a quick reply on X Wednesday: “Til’ death duo part.”

It’s not just the name thing—there’s more to the Duo-Lipa connection than meets the eye.

“We’ve built this fun little story about Duo being in love with her (we even had him propose outside her Madison Square Garden show), so it’s honestly kind of shocking—yet so cool—that she’s acknowledged his untimely death,” a Duolingo rep shared.

And no, Lipa’s response wasn’t part of some brand deal—just a natural response to the years of Duo’s unrequited affection for her.

As for how Duo met his end, well, Duolingo claims he got run over by a Cybertruck—but don’t worry, the app’s still alive and kicking.

“Duo may be gone, but we’re still here (and just as chaotic as ever),” the rep said.
