Brandon Moreno beat Steve Erceg by unanimous decision in a big fight in Mexico City. The judges scored it 49-46 across the board, giving Moreno a strong win in the UFC Fight Night main event. This victory helped him shake off any bad memories from his last UFC fight in Mexico.
The fight was close, but Moreno controlled most of it, taking every round except the third. He stayed on his feet and made Erceg chase him. Even though he didn’t come close to finishing his opponent, Moreno landed 82 total strikes compared to Erceg’s 67, keeping the Australian from pulling off an upset in front of Moreno’s home crowd.
Who Will Moreno Fight Next?
Moreno is already thinking about his next fight. After the fight, he turned his attention to UFC executive Hunter Campbell, asking for guidance on his next move. While he didn’t name a specific opponent, he made it clear he wants to be part of UFC 320 in Guadalajara on September 13. “I think I can move the needle,” he said.
Erceg Says He’ll Be Back!
Steve Erceg isn’t giving up after this loss. He has now lost three fights in a row, a tough setback after a strong start in the UFC. He acknowledged the rough patch but stayed determined, saying, “I’ll be back.”
Torres Wins Fast with Big Knockout!
Manuel Torres didn’t waste any time in his fight against Drew Dober. In the co-main event, Torres made quick work of the 12-year UFC veteran, securing a first-round technical knockout. Torres landed at least 16 unanswered shots to the side of Dober’s head before the referee stepped in.
This win gets Torres back on track after more than a year without a victory, while Dober has now lost four of his last five fights.
Rosas Jr Fights Hard and Wins!
Raul Rosas Jr had to fight hard to win this one. Earlier in the night, Mexico’s rising bantamweight prospect overcame a late scare from Vince Morales to win by unanimous decision. Morales nearly caught him in a tight D’arce choke in the third round, but Rosas Jr escaped and secured the victory with scores of 29-28 across the board.
He has now won five of his last six fights, using sharp boxing to frustrate Morales, who has struggled to find a win since last August before being re-signed by the UFC.
