At least 232 Palestinians have been killed in a massive Israeli assault on Gaza, marking the end of a fragile two-month ceasefire with Hamas. Many of those killed in the airstrikes on Tuesday were children, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health. The victims included at least 77 people in Khan Younis and 20 people in Gaza City, while other strikes targeted areas in Deir el-Balah and Rafah in the south.

Israel’s Military Strikes Intensify Under Netanyahu’s Orders

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed he had ordered the military to take strong action against Hamas after the group refused to release captives or extend the ceasefire. The Israeli military stated that it was conducting extensive strikes on Hamas targets, indicating a sharp escalation in the conflict.

Hamas and Palestinian Groups Respond to the Attacks

Hamas condemned the Israeli airstrikes, calling them an end to the ceasefire. The group warned that prisoners in Gaza faced uncertain futures and urged people in Arab and Islamic nations to protest. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) also accused Israel of sabotaging efforts to reach a lasting ceasefire.

Reports from Gaza: Fear, Destruction, and Casualties

In Gaza, residents described widespread panic as the Israeli airstrikes targeted residential buildings, makeshift schools, and shelters. Many families rushed to hospitals, carrying the remains of their children. Several high-ranking Hamas officials were reportedly killed in the strikes.

Ceasefire Negotiations Collapse Amid Continued Violence

Efforts to negotiate the second phase of the ceasefire, which would see more captives released, have stalled. While Israel has not officially declared the ceasefire over, senior officials have made it clear that military operations will continue. Israel's Defense Minister warned of further escalation if the remaining captives were not freed, while Israel's ambassador to the UN reiterated that hostilities would not end until all hostages were returned.

The Ongoing Destruction of Gaza and Humanitarian Crisis

The violence has caused widespread destruction in Gaza, leaving homes, hospitals, and schools in ruins. According to local health authorities, more than 48,000 Palestinians have died during the 18-month war.
